Ukrainian drones targeted the Saratov Oil Refinery in southern Russia during the night, according to a report from Ukraine’s General Staff on Monday.
This refinery, owned by Rosneft, is one of the oldest in Russia, with an annual production capacity of 4.8 million metric tons. The attack last night marked the fourth occasion this autumn that the refinery has been hit by Ukrainian strikes.
An analysis of social media footage conducted by the independent news organization Astra confirmed that the target of the attack was, in fact, the Saratov oil refinery.
Roman Busargin, the Governor of the Saratov region, announced on Telegram that he had received information from the Defense Ministry advising him to remain vigilant for potential drone strikes in the vicinity.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that it successfully intercepted 64 drones overnight: 29 in the Saratov region, 29 over Rostov, 4 in Volgograd, 1 above Belgorod, and 1 in Stavropol.
Saratov airport was briefly closed overnight but reopened early Monday morning.
Additionally, Ukraine’s General Staff stated that they had also targeted Russian military logistical sites in the occupied Luhansk region.
There have been no reports of casualties.
The Moscow Times has not been able to independently verify these claims.
As the full-scale invasion of Ukraine continues, Russia has been maintaining a nearly constant barrage of drone and missile attacks, particularly aimed at Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
