In response to the termination of the national Blue Ribbon Schools program, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has unveiled a new state-level accolade known as the Lone Star Ribbon Schools. This initiative aims to recognize and commend schools within the Houston metropolitan area that demonstrate exceptional academic success, innovative instructional practices, and strong community involvement. By establishing this program, Texas ensures that outstanding educational institutions continue to receive meaningful recognition tailored to the state’s unique standards and priorities.

The first cohort of Lone Star Ribbon Schools includes a variety of campuses spanning elementary, middle, and high school levels. These schools have been selected for their notable achievements in areas such as narrowing achievement disparities and pioneering effective teaching models.
