Lake Mead National Recreation Area – A routine stop at a fuel dock spiraled into tragedy Sunday afternoon when a boat exploded and burst into flames, leaving two people with serious burn injuries and claiming the life of a dog on board.[1] Bystanders sprang into action with fire extinguishers, containing much of the blaze before professional firefighters arrived. The Clark County Fire Department responded swiftly to the scene at Callville Bay Marina.

Emergency calls flooded in around 3:27 p.m. as witnesses reported a boat catching fire immediately after departing the fuel pump area.[2] The vessel, positioned at 100 Callville Bay Road on the north side of Lake Mead, ignited in a powerful explosion that drew immediate attention from nearby boaters. Flames quickly engulfed the craft, prompting urgent action from those in the vicinity.
Callville Bay Marina serves as a key hub for recreational boaters exploring the vast reservoir, which draws thousands of visitors annually from nearby Las Vegas. The fuel dock, a common stop for refueling, became the site of this harrowing event. Officials confirmed the fire spread rapidly but was largely subdued by initial efforts on site.
