On March 5, 2026, at around 8:15 a.m., the 46-year-old guard stood at Gerard Avenue and East 167th Street in Highbridge. She wore her uniform and focused on safely guiding students to school. A man approached without warning or words. He struck her squarely in the chest with a powerful blow before fleeing the scene.[1][2]
The victim immediately called 911. Emergency medical services arrived quickly and treated her for chest pain right there. Later that day, she sought further care at a nearby hospital on her own. Children nearby witnessed the chaos, heightening concerns for school zone safety.[3]
Rain fell steadily, slicking the sidewalks as the attacker dashed away. Surveillance cameras captured his distinctive look: a black puffer jacket with the hood up, black pants, and brown construction boots with laces undone.[1]
Police Track Down the Perpetrator
Officers from the NYPD reviewed footage from cameras near the intersection. They followed the suspect’s path through the neighborhood. The trail led straight to an apartment building just three blocks from the attack site.[2]
