Central Russia experienced significant temperature variations throughout April, with levels fluctuating dramatically above and below typical seasonal averages, as reported by the country’s chief meteorologist on Tuesday.

“This April has been particularly unusual, marked by swings between extremes,” stated Roman Vilfand, director of research at the Russian meteorological agency, Rosgidromet.

Vilfand informed the RIA Novosti news outlet that temperatures in early April were reminiscent of what is usually seen in early May, before they dropped back to March-like conditions and then surged to levels more characteristic of June and July.

On April 12, Moscow encountered a snowfall that was among the latest recorded in the city since the early 2000s.

Rosgidromet projected that temperatures in 18 central Russian regions, including Moscow, will rise to between 20 to 27 degrees Celsius (68 to 81 degrees Fahrenheit) on Tuesday, which is 8 to 12 degrees higher than the average.

According to Rosgidromet, temperatures in Moscow are anticipated to stay elevated through the middle of the week, before a decrease in the latter half of the week.

The Fobos weather center warned of a drop to near-freezing temperatures in the Moscow area over the upcoming weekend, as reported by RIA Novosti, describing the forecast as similar to conditions typically seen in mid-March.
