Fresh leaks regarding the iPhone 17 have emerged, showcasing metal prototypes for its upcoming models. A notable highlight is the sizeable camera bump that distinctively positions the flash and sensors away from the lenses.
In anticipation of each new iPhone generation, a flurry of speculation surrounds potential design changes, especially those related to the cameras.
Renowned leakster Sonny Dickson recently provided an update on preliminary CAD designs that hinted at a previously discussed “camera bar” design making its way into most variants of the iPhone 17 lineup. On March 15, he shared images depicting metal molds aligned with his previous disclosures.
These prototypes are typically made to assist third-party accessory manufacturers in understanding the form and dimensions of forthcoming iPhones. However, it’s important to note that these molds often rely on speculative information rather than official Apple details, leading to occasional discrepancies.
Numerous images and videos circulating online suggest that the standard model in this lineup is set to feature a classic dual-camera setup with a flash positioned on one side. Meanwhile, three other versions are expected to unveil an innovative camera bar design reported recently.
The slimmer variant—tentatively labeled as either iPhone 17e or iPhone 17 Air—will include a single “2-in-1” camera configuration akin to what’s featured in current models like the iPhone 16e. The Pro and Pro Max versions will maintain their traditional triple-camera system situated at the back with separate flash and sensors located on one side.
Analysis of these mold pictures indicates that for either the iPhone 17e or Air variant, its camera bump appears significantly larger compared to other models—a likely result of modifications aimed at achieving a considerably thinner profile for this device.
While there hasn’t been confirmation regarding authenticity, Dickson has established himself as reliable when it comes to unveiling future iterations of Apple’s smartphones. In April 2024, he showcased previews for what would be known as part of the iPhone 16 series well ahead of their public unveiling—including accurate predictions about screen sizes across all four variations months prior to release.
