Former rugby sevens star Jamie Farndale has set his sights on helping Hong Kong become a “world leader” on and off the pitch.
A Scotland and Great Britain international, who scored 136 tries during a nine-year, 302-match career, Farndale retired after GB’s failure to qualify for the 2024 Olympics.
In October last year, he was appointed Hong Kong China Rugby’s general manager for club development and sustainability, a role he called a “dream job”.
By the time Farndale knew his time on the pitch was over, he was combining elite sport with a University of Cambridge master’s degree in Sustainability Leadership, and sustainability roles with World Rugby and the International Olympic Committee.
“Looking back, I was seriously stressed,” Farndale said. “I loved every second of my career, but there was a sense of relief around it ending.”

During the 2017 London Sevens, which Scotland won with victory over England in the final, Farndale scored the winning try in what remains his country’s only victory over New Zealand. He also captained Scotland, and played in two Commonwealth Games and two Rugby World Cup Sevens tournaments.
