Ghana’s parliament has passed a highly contentious bill that imposes severe penalties on members of the LGBTQ+ community as well as their supporters. The legislation criminalizes not only same-sex relationships but also advocacy, public display of LGBTQ+ identities, and any form of support or promotion. Under this new law, individuals found guilty may face lengthy prison sentences, including up to 10 years for public advocacy and up to 5 years for “promoting” LGBTQ+ activities.
