Mud-splattered tire tracks and a crashed work van painted a grim picture when deputies arrived on River Road near Sardis early Sunday morning. Victor Gonzales, 42, and his 19-year-old daughter Serenity lay dead from gunshot wounds inside the vehicle, which authorities treated as a double homicide scene.[2] The pair, both electricians from the Memphis area, had left a job site the previous Friday with plans that turned fatal.

Responders found the white van off the sparsely traveled gravel road after a report of a one-car wreck around 7 a.m. Tire marks suggested the vehicle veered sharply, as if its occupants fled an attacker. Panola County Sheriff Shane Phelps confirmed deputies spotted one victim deceased upon arrival, with the second soon verified dead as well.[3] The incident likely unfolded late Saturday or early Sunday.
