The Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels have reopened following a fire that erupted at a nearby building on Tuesday evening.

At the peak of the incident, approximately 70 firefighters battled the blaze that occurred at an industrial facility on Tunnel Avenue in Greenwich, located in southeast London. The fire has been successfully contained.

Due to heavy smoke that reduced visibility for motorists, some nearby roads were closed.

While the river crossings resumed operations overnight, several roads continue to be shut, including Tunnel Avenue, Blackwall Lane, and the slip road from Blackwall Lane to the northbound Blackwall Tunnel.

Fire crews were dispatched to the scene around 18:15 GMT and utilized two 100-foot (32-meter) turntable ladders to deploy water from above in an effort to control the flames.

Two individuals were advised to evacuate a neighboring property as a precautionary measure; however, there are no reports of injuries.

Having worked throughout the night to extinguish the fire, some firefighters remained on site Wednesday morning, according to the London Fire Brigade.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.
