RUGBY Town suffered a meltdown after conceding five goals in the space of nine second-half minutes in a heavy 6-1 home defeat against Worcester City.
Valley led at the interval courtesy of Liam Francis’ goal just before half time only for Worcester to stun the home side with a devastating spell shortly after the break at Butlin Road.

The visitors equalised through Kyle Belmonte on 49 minutes before Felix Miles and Zac Guinan both struck twice as the visitors scored five goal in the space of just nine minutes.

And a late Dylan Hart goal rubbed salt in the wounds as Valley slumped to a fourth straight league defeat.

The result means Rugby sit two points from safety in the Northern Premier League Midlands relegation zone.

Carl Adams’ side made a bright start as Mikey Taylor rounded the goalkeeper only for Hayden Reeves to deny the striker with a goal-saving block.

Valley broke the deadlock on 44 minutes when Francis headed in Ayo Lekuti’s cross before Taylor went close just after the restart.

However, Worcester drew level four minutes after the break when Belmonte curled a shot into the net from 25-yards out.

And City completed the turnaround less than a minute later as Miles finished Taylor Townsend’s cross from six-yards out.

Valley almost equalised soon after as Harrison Nee saw his goalbound effort blocked on the line.

However, the visitors struck again on 53 minutes when Guinan met Jordan Lymn’s cross at the near post and fired a first time finish past Paul Hathaway.

And Hathaway’s poor clearance allowed Guinan to net his second of the game three minutes later from the edge of the penalty area.

Valley’s capitulation continued on 58 minutes when Francis played a short backpass towards Hathaway and Miles picked up the loose ball, rounded the goalkeeper and finished into an empty net.

City substitute Hart completed the scoring on 74 minutes when he headed in Townsend’s corner with his first touch while Belmonte hit the woodwork late on.

Rugby are next in action against Lye Town on Saturday, November 2 with kick-off at 3pm at the Sports Ground.
