Washington’s Women’s Golf Team Excels in Opening Round at Stanford Intercollegiate
STANFORD, California – The Washington women’s golf squad showcased impressive performance during the first round of the Stanford Intercollegiate, spearheaded by standout player Vivian Lu. Lu concluded her day with a commendable score of two strokes below par, securing a tie for seventh place overall.
Lu excelled on the front nine by carding five under par, establishing herself as a driving force for the Huskies. Her teammate Mads Smith also held steady throughout the competition, finishing with an even score. As of now, tournament hosts Stanford have taken an early lead after one day of play with an impressive score of -11. Other teams making‍ their mark include USC at -4 and Virginia at -1.
Coaches’ Perspective and Player Performance
“I’m genuinely proud of our team’s efforts today; it was especially gratifying to witness Carmen enjoying her game,” commented Head Coach Mary Lou Mulflur. “Though we started a bit slow, our patience paid off as we continued‌ to fight through each hole.” Mulflur praised both Viv and Mads for their disciplined play throughout the round.
The coach noted that Jenny Chang is gradually shaking off some rust since she had not competed recently—an encouraging sign moving forward. Kennedy Knox showed consistent performance but can enhance her game significantly with minor adjustments to her strategy.

The Washington team will return to action bright and early Saturday morning, teeing off at 8:25 AM on hole one alongside LSU and Arizona State. The lineup for Saturday includes:
