Kebaitse Transitions from Athletics to Politics: A New Vision for Lentsweletau-Lephepe

In a remarkable shift, Kebaitse has left behind his track and field aspirations to pursue a political career with the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP). As reported by CALISTUS KOLANTSHO, in an impressive display of support, Kebaitse has recently secured a landmark victory in the BDP primary elections representing the Lentsweletau-Lephepe constituency. He received an overwhelming 1,358 votes, surpassing five other candidates including former Member of Parliament Nnaniki Makwinja.

A Trailblazer from Lentsweletau

Kebaitse proudly claims the title of being the first individual from Lentsweletau to become a parliamentary candidate for his party. Reflecting on his journey, he stated, “I am known as a man of many milestones.” His contributions to sports include negotiating Nike’s role as a technical sponsor for the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA), serving two terms as its secretary-general, and holding prestigious titles like World Athletics referee and Botswana’s inaugural Photo Finish judge. His officiating experience spans across numerous countries including Zimbabwe and South Africa at various levels of athletics competitions.

Political Aspirations Rooted in Community Welfare

Kebaitse’s motivation for entering politics stems from his desire to tackle pressing issues such as poverty reduction and youth unemployment that plague his constituency. He envisions enhancing tourism opportunities while significantly improving socio-economic conditions within Lentsweletau-Lephepe. If he triumphs in the forthcoming General Election, he aims to influence infrastructure development through initiatives outlined in National Development Plan 12.

“I aim to focus on upgrading road infrastructure within our area,” remarked Kebaitse. Drawing on his extensive background as an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) specialist with over two decades of experience, he believes that he can significantly contribute towards establishing robust ICT systems within government operations.

Expertise Leveraging Technological Advancements

As an accomplished ICT solutions architect holding both an MBA and Bachelor’s degree in Applied Business Computing from Sunderland University, Kebaitse’s professional track record is impressive. His previous roles have included serving as an ICT officer at SADC secretariat and managing ICT infrastructure operations at Botswana Power Corporation (BPC). Additionally, his expertise encompasses network administration positions held at both the University of Botswana and DVET under the Ministry of Education.

The Lentsweletau-Lephepe constituency includes several vibrant villages like Gakuto, Mmatseta, Kopong among others – areas that are pivotal to achieving community-focused improvements.

Promoting Youth Engagement Through Sports Development

In addition to these initiatives aimed at economic upliftment through technology; Kebaitse expresses fervent dedication towards grassroots sport development. “I will prioritize building mini sports fields accessible for youth engagement,” he stated passionately about fostering athletic facilities across open spaces nationwide—designed not only for recreational use but also geared towards nurturing talent among children who may excel outside traditional academic frameworks.

“There are abundant coaches ready to mentor young athletes—this creates job opportunities while enriching community bonds.” Emphasizing inclusivity in sport participation could lead many youngsters toward professional avenues while promoting physical health within communities.

With such comprehensive plans ahead focused on leveraging technology alongside sustained sport development; Kebaitse proves himself not just as a candidate but rather a visionary seeking impactful change.
