Among TV shows, the anime One Piece is leading in piracy with 444,000 pages of illegal content.
Renowned Canadian rapper Drake ranks as the most pirated music artist in 2023, accumulating 303,000 pages, while Doja Cat’s album Scarlet leads as the most pirated album with 13,300 pages.
The most pirated video game this year is Spider-Man 2, featuring 136,000 pages of illegal content.
The most pirated software globally in 2023 is Microsoft Office, with 291,000 pages of torrent material available online.
The top pirated audiobook is Spare, Prince Harry’s memoir, totaling 193,000 pages of illegal content.
The Most Pirated Movies of 2023
Film piracy appears to be on the rise, exhibiting a 36% increase in illicit film consumption from 2021 to 2022, as reported by the research firm Muso.
Given the plethora of high-profile blockbuster releases in 2023, these trends are expected to continue.
This year, the “Barbie” movie not only emerged as the most pirated film but also as the most pirated content overall, boasting over 4 million pages of torrents available.
The film, centered around female empowerment, was highly awaited and shattered box office records, earning over 1.4 billion dollars globally.
Hence, it is not surprising that many internet users are seeking ways to watch it free of charge online.

This phenomenon is especially prevalent among teenagers who often lack the financial independence to purchase every game or movie they desire.
As a consequence, industries find themselves bearing the significant financial losses attributed to this issue.
Taking the gaming industry as an example, the average cost of a game in the U.S. is $69.99, and there are at least 536,424 pages featuring illegally torrented gaming content available online.
This suggests that the gaming industry might incur a loss of approximately $37,544,315 this year alone if someone downloads a game from each one of those pages.
In a similar vein, the television industry is poised to suffer significant financial losses due to piracy in the current year.
According to Forbes, over 50% of streamers register for a streaming service intending to watch only a specific show.
Currently, there are around 1,062,646 pages of illegal torrent content online pertaining to television programs released this year.
Given that a Netflix subscription costs $6.99, if an individual opts to view one of the illegal torrents rather than subscribing, the platform risks a loss of $7,427,895.
Applying this same methodology to films, where 4,849,023 web pages of illegal content exist, using the same Netflix subscription cost of $6.99, the platform could potentially lose $33,894,670 globally due to film piracy.
Though these figures are rough approximations, they highlight the challenges specific industries face in safeguarding their content from piracy.
Methodology
To determine the most pirated content of 2023, we first compiled a seed list of movies, TV shows, games, audiobooks, and albums released during the year, together with popular software and music artists.
Next, we used Google to search for each item of content combined with the term “torrent” to guarantee that the search results contained pages that referenced both words explicitly.
We also ensured that the results included only web pages published from January 1 to December 7.
Subsequently, we recorded the number of pages on Google for each of these search terms. With this data, we ranked them by category.
The data collection took place in December 2023.
