As excitement builds for a new model, current inventory levels of the existing iPhone SE are diminishing at various retail locations, as reported by industry sources.
Apple plans to introduce an updated version of the iPhone SE in spring 2025. This iteration is expected to feature a fresh aesthetic aligned with the design of the iPhone 14 and incorporate a larger display measuring 6.1 inches.
According to Bloomberg’s findings, stocks of the existing model appear to be rapidly depleting in selected areas. While many Apple Stores in metropolitan hubs like New York City and Los Angeles still carry this model, availability has become uneven across different locations. Major carriers such as AT&T and Verizon are promoting deals on their remaining stock.
The redesigned phone is anticipated to eliminate the physical home button for Face ID functionality. Additionally, upgrades will be made to key hardware components ensuring it meets minimum standards for enhanced Apple capabilities.
Rumored enhancements include a significant upgrade in camera quality featuring a new 48-megapixel sensor—despite likely retaining just one lens—as well as potential inclusion of an A18 chip, an OLED screen option, exciting new color options, and possibly a custom-built Apple 5G modem.
Currently referred to by its codename V59, this latest device may also experience a slight price increase following its upgrade; while it retails at $429 presently, speculation suggests that it could rise to approximately $499 with its debut.
Transitioning Away from Existing Models
Since its initial launch in 2018—marked by successive updates every two years—the last iterations persistently followed this pattern: The second generation was unveiled in March of 2020 while we welcomed the third generation into stores in March of 2022.
While discussions about potential names have surfaced—with suggestions including calling it ‘iPhone 16e’—these ideas have largely been put aside after clarifications indicated that such nomenclature suggested annual updates wouldn’t materialize anytime soon thus challenging those claims significantly.
