Wales have named fly-half Dan Edwards and wing Ellis Mee as two uncapped players in their 34-man squad for the Six Nations.
Ospreys’ Edwards is one of just two fly-half options in the squad alongside Cardiff’s Ben Thomas, with Sam Costelow out injured and Gareth Anscombe dropped.
Max Llewellyn, Rio Dyer, Cameron Winnett and Taine Plumtree are also absent from the 34, while Dewi Lake, Ryan Elias, Costelow, Adam Beard, Ben Carter, Archie Griffin and Mason Grady are unavailable through injury.
Flanker Jac Morgan will take up the captaincy in Lake’s absence.
Head coach Warren Gatland has also recalled hooker Sam Parry, prop WillGriff John, lock Dafydd Jenkins, No. 8 Taulupe Faletau and wing Josh Adams.
Saracens back Liam Williams and Scarlets centre Joe Roberts are also in the squad ahead of Wales’ first Six Nations encounter against France in Paris on Friday, January 31.
“We’ve selected a squad that we feel has a good blend of exciting young talent and experience,” Gatland said.
“This group of players has a huge amount of potential and we will be working incredibly hard together this campaign.
“Every single training session is incredibly important in terms of our preparation for that first game and I’ll be looking to see a lot of hard work and everyone working together.
“As ever there are going to be some very disappointed players who have missed out on selection. The message to them is keep working hard because you never know what may happen.”
