Elena Rybakina Defends Former Coach Amid Controversy

Elena Rybakina, the reigning Wimbledon champion, stated on⁢ Saturday that her former coach, Stefano Vukov, “never misused his position” following⁤ news of his provisional suspension by the WTA. Currently ranked sixth in the world, Rybakina is ⁣eager to⁤ reintegrate Vukov into‌ her coaching staff despite an ongoing investigation regarding a potential violation of the women’s tour conduct guidelines.

According to The Athletic, the WTA initiated ​this inquiry ‌last year based on several complaints pertaining to Vukov’s ‍approach⁣ to training ⁢and leadership style; descriptions described it as “intense⁤ and occasionally severe” ⁢from ‌observers within ‌tennis circles.‌

Vukov has denied any allegations of misconduct and affirmed​ in an interview: “I have never abused anyone.” This situation arises just before the Australian Open set to commence on January 12.

Rising Support for Vukov from Rybakina

Rybakina ⁤came out strongly in support of her former​ coach while addressing⁤ media ‍comments she⁢ found unfair.

“I’m disappointed by some remarks circulating from individuals involved ⁢in our sport—coaches and commentators alike,” she remarked earnestly during a post-match press briefing after Kazakhstan’s loss⁤ against Poland at the United Cup. “It doesn’t seem right.”

She further⁢ expressed her unwavering faith in Vukov’s integrity: “I want to ‍emphasize again ⁤that he has always ‍treated me with respect⁣ over our six years together.”

At only 25 years old, this talented athlete was born in Moscow but represents Kazakhstan on international platforms. She concluded‌ with ​thoughtful ⁣reflection: “This situation is not ideal for me; however, I deeply appreciate all ​that he has ‍done since day one.”
