Celebrating a Legend: Don James to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award
The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) has announced that Don James, a pivotal figure in the history of Nintendo of America, will be honored with the distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award. This event will take place during the 28th annual D.I.C.E Awards, scheduled for February 13, 2025, at the renowned Aria Resort in Las Vegas.
A Legacy Begun in 1981
Don James began his remarkable journey with Nintendo in 1981 as one of its pioneering employees. As the executive vice president responsible for operations, he played an essential role across various departments including consumer services, product design and development, experiential marketing strategies, real estate management, manufacturing engineering oversight, quality assurance processes, supply chain logistics procurement strategies, technical services provision and translation capabilities.
Championing Industry Standards
Throughout his extensive career at Nintendo of America, James was instrumental in establishing key standards for fueling growth within video gaming. He contributed significantly to developing the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) rating system that continues to provide guidance on game content today. Additionally, he aided in forming what is now known as the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), actively participating on its board.
