DOBBIES Garden Centre near Rugby is to close at the end of January – but will reopen under a new owner.

The Rugby store’s closure was not announced alongside other stores – including Stratford’s – which were earmarked for closure in December.

But an announcement on the company’s website has confirmed the closure.

A spokesperson said the Straight Mile site and its staff would transfer to a new garden centre operator.

They added: “We announced in September 2024 that we were launching a Restructuring Plan (RP) to build a strong platform for a return to sustainable profitability. Part of the RP included seeking rent reductions at a series of sites.

“Following the approval of the RP and discussions with the landlord, our Rugby site will transfer to a new garden centre operator, with colleagues, at the end of January.

“Thank you to all our colleagues, customers and suppliers who have supported us during this ongoing process.”

A Warwickshire garden centre has confirmed it will close on 23 December as part of a wider restructure.

Dobbies’ Stratford branch closed on December 23 – one of 17 branches which closed late in 2024 as part of plan to safeguard the company’s long term future.

The company previously said in a statement the restructure would “return Dobbies to sustainable profitability through site rationalisations, rent reductions, and other tangible cost savings.”
