The Rise of Agrivoltaics⁤ in Italy

This⁤ year, agrivoltaics ‌has captured‍ significant⁣ attention, with Italy emerging as a leader in the field. The ‍country ⁢recently⁤ conducted its inaugural tender specifically ‍for agrivoltaic⁤ projects, and the‌ results were impressive!

A Milestone Tender Outcome

Italy awarded ⁤contracts for an impressive 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of solar energy through agrivoltaic initiatives across a total of 540 distinct projects.

High Demand and Competitive Bidding

The interest was so high that bids exceeded expectations; there were 643 submissions totaling about 1.7 GW of electrical capacity available through this program. Among the notable winners ‌are European Energy, securing⁤ a substantial contract for 270 MW; Repower with⁤ their 62 MW solar array located in Sicily; and Next⁣ Energy ⁣Capital ⁣contributing their project of 73 MW situated in Campania. Additionally, major companies like ⁢Solarig obtained rights to develop a further 122 MW while ‍Photosol was awarded a significant contract worth 55 MW.

Oversight by⁤ GSE

The Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE), Italy’s national energy agency, is responsible ⁢for managing these tenders and is overseeing the entire initiative. Most successful projects will be established in southern regions of⁣ Italy.

Focus on Agricultural Enterprises

According to pv magazine, agricultural firms predominantly spearheaded these proposals: “Most⁣ submissions originated from businesses rooted in agriculture.” Every eligible project qualified for incentives since the maximum⁣ quota was not reached during this tender process. Discounts off‍ ceiling prices varied‌ significantly; between approximately 9% to as high as 53%, allowing larger installations to capitalize on ⁤operational efficiencies.

Payment Structures and Incentives

The compensation structure⁢ rewards smaller scale efforts differently: projects⁣ up to and including ⁤300 ⁤kW have a payment‌ cap at €0.093 ($0.097)/kWh while⁣ those surpassing that threshold ‍can earn up to €0.085 ($0.089)/kWh.
