Chidozie shared with PEOPLE that they had long wanted to disclose their impending parenthood during the festivities but struggled with how to do so creatively. “Originally, we considered a fun game for our guests where we’d gradually lead up to revealing ‘Who is expecting?’. However, as we organized our schedule, I wasn’t sure how to integrate that idea,” he explained. Ultimately, it was a last-minute inspiration that gave life to the unexpected garter toss concept.
Only those in the wedding party and media staff were privy to this surprise; however, even they were clueless about its execution on that special day.

“The joy at that moment felt surreal!” exclaimed Chidozie later on. “It was like we had scored a championship win!”

Chidozie met Nnenna during pharmacy school at Howard University back in 2019 before officially dating in 2020. He proposed weeks prior to their latest ceremony amidst romantic graduation pictures taken near Washington D.C.’s iconic Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
Although they first celebrated their union with traditional vows in Nigeria just before New Year’s Eve 2023, plans shifted once exciting news about their growing family broke earlier this May—a decision together altering timelines beautifully reverberating throughout both families involved today!
