A BEREAVED Rugby couple have presented awards to two police collision investigators who went the extra mile to help their communities,

in memory of their daughter who was killed by a dangerous driver.

George and Giulietta Galli-Atkinson held the 26th Livia Award for Professionalism and Service to Justice at a ceremony at New Scotland Yard.

They founded the award in the name of their daughter Livia, who died at the age of 16 in 1998 when a driver mounted the pavement and ran her over while she was walking to her ballet class in Enfield.

Inspired by the police team who dealt with Livia’s case in 1998, the Galli-Atkinsons established the award to highlight the work of Serious Collision Investigators (SCI) and Family Liaison Officers (FLOs) in the Metropolitan Police.

The 2024 winner of the Livia Award was DC Jenny Burr for consistently delivering above and beyond her professional obligations as a SCI and FLO.

PC Tony Butler received the Livia Highly Commended Certificate for his commitment in pursuing the criminal in a Serious Injury by Dangerous Driving case.

Giulietta and George Galli-Atkinson said: “This award highlights the meritorious in the Met Roads and Transport Policing Command Serious Collision Units, raising their professional profile and commitment, to encourage best practise.

“Given the long-term trauma caused, annually, to thousands of fatal and serious collision victims nationwide by irresponsible and dangerous drivers, the stronger the enforcement and investigations and caring for victims, the better for everyone.

“The Livia Roll of Honour from 1999-2024 lists exemplars of outstanding professional service. We hold them in high regard and they have our continuing support.”

The award is endorsed by the Prime Minister, the Metropolitan Police Service and has the support of Rugby MP John Slinger, who was a guest speaker at this year’s ceremony.

Mr Slinger also read out a message from Transport Minister Louise Haigh, saying: “This award means so much – both as a recognition of meritorious service in keeping the public safe but also as a tribute to Livia.

“It recognises the real compassion, professionalism, and dedication shown by officers in the Roads and Transport Policing Command.

“I would like to congratulate the winners and to thank you all for your hard work.”
