Catawba College Athletics Honors New Hall of Fame Inductees

SALISBURY – The Catawba College Athletic Department celebrated the induction of twelve exceptional individuals into its Sports Hall of Fame during a festive ceremony held on Saturday, November 9th at Keppel Auditorium. This year’s distinguished group includes McKenzie Burman‌ Zinani ’07 (women’s soccer), Brian Graves ’07 and Antonio Houston ’10 (men’s basketball), Craige Lyerly ’10 (baseball), Allie Marshall Lyerly ’10 (softball), Todd McComb ’03 and Rodney Wallace ’05 (football), Marty Tuohy ’11 (men’s lacrosse), and Ryan Willis ’06 (men’s cross country). Additionally, Dr. Karl Hales, Bill Hall ’66, and Bob Setzer ’73 received honorary Service Awards.
A Legacy Worth Celebrating
With these new additions, the Catawba Sports Hall of Fame now boasts a total of 224 members since its inception in 1977. Elections for inductees are conducted by an esteemed committee comprised of prior members.
Inductee HighlightsMcKenzie Burman Zinani ‘07 – Women’s Soccer Achievements
Regarded as one of the standout offensive talents in Catawba women’s soccer history, McKenzie Burman made her mark in her sophomore season by equaling a long-standing record set by Catawba great Catey Conner with 17 goals. She eclipsed this feat during her junior year with an impressive tally of 23 goals along with earning NSCAA First Team All-American honors and being named the SAC Player of the Year in 2005. That year saw Burman lead her team to an unbeaten conference run and secure a win against top-ranked Tusculum in the NCAA Tournament’s opening round. She currently sits second overall in program history for career goals at 53 and has amassed a total of 124 points throughout her collegiate career.
Brian Graves ‘07 – Men’s Basketball Standout
A key player on court for Catawba men’s basketball, Brian Graves distinguished himself through three all-conference selections including First Team accolades during his junior and senior years. He achieved remarkable success through three seasons each featuring over 150 assists while setting a SAC conference record with his total haul reaching an impressive milestone—600 assists—ranking him third for steals as well. Over four years he propelled his team to multiple victories totaling over twenty wins per season while securing three titles within their conference competitions.
Antonio Houston ‘10 – Men’s Basketball Scoring Leader
The second-highest scorer ever recorded by Catawba men’s basketball is Antonio Houston who left behind an astounding legacy with his scoring tally reaching precisely registered at 2,156 points overall — earning him recognition as one among SAC’s elite scorers historically which clearly cements him into glory pages filled rich accolades such two-time tournament MVP honors collectively alongside championship trophies from both regular seasons & superb playoffs appearances arising throughout competition tenure here!
