Introducing Luxie Lifts: A New Safe Ride Initiative for the Holidays

The Pronghorn Athletics department at the University of Lethbridge has unveiled its⁢ new holiday safe ride service, dubbed Luxie Lifts. On Thursday, Neil Langevin, Executive Director of Pronghorn Athletics, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative’s potential to enhance community safety during the festive season.
A Legacy of Advocacy Against Impaired Driving
Langevin noted that although their involvement with a similar initiative spans nearly three decades, this year marks‌ a significant step as they take full control of the holiday safe ride program. “Luxie Lifts is not only aimed at providing safe transportation during Christmas but also serves as a fundraising effort for our athletics/school-record-22-kentucky-wildcats-to-compete-at-2024-paris-olympic-games/” title=”School-Record 22 Kentucky Wildcats to Compete at 2024 Paris Olympic Games”>athletics program,” he clarified.
An Overview of Service Operations
Taylor Penney, Events Manager for Pronghorn Athletics, detailed how Luxie Lifts would function. “Our operations will cover‍ six specific nights: November 29 and 30; December 6 and 7; and December 13 and 14 from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. During these times, individuals can contact our dedicated hotline to arrange rides home,” she explained.
The Process in Action
The service involves three volunteers who will arrive at your location to safely transport you, your guests, as well as your vehicle back home after an evening out. “One unique aspect of Luxie Lifts is that we are also catering to private gatherings,” Penney added.
How Private Bookings Work
Organizers hosting private events can request this ride service via an online form on their website. Once submitted, event hosts will receive confirmation regarding volunteer availability on that particular night along with details about a modest sponsorship fee required for utilizing the service.
Flexibility Beyond Public Nights
If an event is scheduled during one of those six community nights mentioned earlier, provisions are straightforward; however if it falls between November and January outside those specific dates—there may still be possibilities for arranging transportation through Luxie Lifts,” stated Penney.
Paving New Opportunities Through Fundraising
The proceeds generated from this initiative will be reinvested into student athletes’ programs within the university. “This funding applies towards essential needs such as training gear enhancements; nutrition support; additional travel opportunities for exhibitions; or even aid toward assistant coaching roles,” she added.
