A stunning Sean Neave hat trick saw our Young Magpies secure a dramatic 5-4 win over Leeds U18s on Saturday afternoon, making it SEVEN goals in four league games for the Geordie striker this season.
Chris Moore’s Magpies raced into an early lead courtesy of goals from Joe Branson and Sam Alabi – the highly-rated England youth midfielder – which put us in a strong position to record our first league win since last month’s 3-2 victory against Liverpool.
Freddie Lane struck the back of the net in the 24th minute to halve the deficit for the hosts, but an action-filled first half only got more fantastic as Neave grabbed a brace of goals in the 32nd and 35th minutes.
The 17-year-old has had a very stop start campaign so far, with a hat trick against Derby and goal against Everton coming either side of a four game absence.
Former Aberdeen talent Lewis Pirie again brought Leeds back into the game with a goal in added time of the first half as the Toon teenagers had one hand on all three points. But it looked like it wasn’t to be for our side, as Lewis Pickles brought the hosts within one in the 69th minute, before Pirie grabbed his second of the game from the penalty spot after a foul by Logan Watts on Carrick Njinko.
However, Neave needed little time to put us back ahead in the 85th minute, with his effort inside the box beating Alex Baird and completing his hat trick!
The win sees us settle into the midtable of the U-18 Premier League North, sitting in 8th place and ahead of Stoke City, Middlesbrough and Blackburn in the process.
