Bruno Fernandes’ red card against Tottenham has been overturned after Manchester United appealed the decision.
Fernandes was sent-off by referee Chris Kavanagh after 42 minutes of Sunday’s 3-0 defeat for a tackle on Spurs midfielder James Maddison.
The VAR failed to overturn Kavanagh’s original call, forcing United to play for the remaining 48 minutes with 10 men.
Spurs, who were already leading through Brennan Johnson’s early strike before Fernandes’ red, went on to win the game through further goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke.
“When you see it a more palatable decision would be yellow card”
Dermot Gallagher says it was the wrong decision to send Bruno Fernandes off against Tottenham

United captain Fernandes was set to miss the league fixtures against Aston Villa, Brentford and West Ham but will now be available for selection.
The Portugal international said after the game he felt the sending off was incorrect. He told Sky Sports: “I didn’t go into the tackle with studs and I take him with my ankle.
“It’s a clear foul but never a red card and that’s my feeling. He [Maddison] said it was a foul but never a red card. I think in the eyes of everyone you can see it’s never a red card.
“If this is a red card, we have to look at many other incidents.
“I’ve had many incidents when I get kicked and I’ve never seen something so quick coming up as a red card. I just think it’s never a red card. It’s a foul. Even the contact is not that strong. If [the referee] wants to give me a yellow because it’s a counter-attack, I agree. And then I don’t understand why the VAR didn’t call the referee to the screen. For me, it’s just not a really good decision.”
