External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar participated in ministerial meetings with three regional groups to enhance India’s cooperation. He chaired the meeting of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) and co-chaired sessions with two groups from Latin America and the Caribbean. In a post on X, he mentioned that the BIMSTEC meeting was held in preparation for the upcoming leaders’ summit hosted by Thailand, where the ministers reviewed their collaboration in areas such as health, food security, trade, investment, economy, and energy.

He reiterated “India’s commitment for wider engagement with BIMSTEC in line with ‘Neighbourhood First’, ‘Vision SAGAR’ and ‘Act East Policy’”. The meeting “focused on improving physical, maritime, and digital connectivity across the region” and “explored opportunities for capacity building, skill development, and improving people-to-people ties”, he posted.

The ministers are united in their commitment to the BIMSTEC Centres of Excellence. The seven-member group, known as the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), is dedicated to advancing economic and social development through technical and educational initiatives. After co-chairing the India-CARICOM Foreign Ministers meeting with Dominica Foreign Minister Vince Henderson, he said on X that they discussed “upgrading our partnership and deepening cooperation in health, IT, FinTech, capacity building, renewables, and food security”.

CARICOM, short for the Caribbean Community, consists of 15 members, including Guyana, Suriname, and Trinidad, all of which have a significant Indian diaspora. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar co-chaired the India-CELAC Foreign Ministers Meeting with Honduran Foreign Minister Enrique Reina. The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) comprises 33 members.

He posted on X, that the agenda included Digital Public Infrastructure, health, clean energy, and capacity building. The meeting “highlighted possibilities for greater engagement in Artificial Intelligence, e-mobility, space, smart agriculture, and drones”, he said. “Our political cooperation and deepening economic linkages advance South-South cooperation” and they “have a shared commitment to reformed multilateralism”, he added.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar continued his series of meetings with global leaders. From Central Asia, he met with Turkmenistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Rasit Meredow and Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov. Jaishankar shared on X that his discussion with Meredow focused on “further expanding our friendly ties”. He also expressed appreciation for Saidov’s insights on regional matters.

The United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed and he had “so much to talk about, on our ties and what’s happening in the world”, EAM Jaishankar said on X. He added that he and Romania’s Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu “took stock of our growing bilateral engagements in tourism, defence and mobility” and “exchanged perspectives on Ukraine”.

Ukraine was also a topic of discussion during talks between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen, as noted in a post by Jaishankar on X. In his meeting with Netherlands Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp, Jaishankar described their conversation as a “very open and positive discussion on strategic issues of the day.” He also mentioned that his talks with North Macedonia’s Foreign Minister Timco Mucunski covered investment, connectivity, and regional cooperation. Additionally, the Indian minister met with Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.
