Student from Zimbabwe Wins First Prize at Africa Tech Challenge Season IX in China
A student from Zimbabwe, MAKWITI TAPIWA MPOFU, recently achieved great success at Ningbo Polytechnic (NBPT) by winning the first prize at Africa Tech Challenge Season IX (ATC). The event took place during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation – China-Africa-UNESCO Dialogue in Education and Cultural Heritage Protection. MAKWITI shared the podium with international students from Ghana, Rwanda, and Côte d’Ivoire who also excelled in their respective fields. These talented individuals represent nine vocational colleges in China, including Shenzhen Polytechnic University, Jinhua University of Vocational Technology, and NBPT.
Rigorous Training Program for Mechatronics Professionals
MAKWITI and his peers embarked on this journey at NBPT approximately one year and a half ago after undergoing a strict selection process. They underwent intense training courses that covered various aspects of mechatronics such as basic drawing, theoretical calculations, mechanical design, parts processing, assembly work, electrical wiring, programming skills development,
and final product inspection. This comprehensive “1+1.5+0.5” program was specifically designed to equip them with the necessary skills to excel as highly skilled mechatronics professionals through collaborative training efforts between China and Zimbabwe.
Striving for International Cooperation and Talent Development
NBPT has demonstrated a strong commitment to international cooperation by actively supporting initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative. The college has also been exploring innovative strategies for talent development tailored to meet the needs of Chinese enterprises operating on a global scale. Through strategic partnerships with companies expanding their operations overseas,
NBPT has facilitated cultural exchanges and technical knowledge sharing while also contributing to talent exportation for regions like Africa among others.
The college’s efforts have been recognized through various initiatives such as the “China AID Vocational Training Center” under
the Ministry of Commerce which has successfully trained over 4,500 students hailing from Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
