In just three games in his first-team career, Marc Bernal proved that he can be a long-term solution for FC Barcelona in the midfield department.
Just 17 years of age, the La Masia graduate has enjoyed a great rise in prominence in the past few months under the tutelage of new manager Hansi Flick.
However, things turned sour for Bernal this past Tuesday when he ruptured the ACL in his left knee which will now sideline him for close to a year.
Barcelona plan contract renewal for Bernal
Now, as per Toni Juanmarti, Barcelona plan on extending Marc Bernal’s contract until 2029 as a sign of their confidence and trust in him following the serious injury he sustained earlier this week.
Convinced that he is already an integral player, Barça want to extend the academy product’s contract in the next few weeks.

The Catalan club want to give all the support and confidence to the 17-year-old midfielder, who got off to a good start this season before the injury.
This summer, Bernal extended his contract with Barça until 2026 with an option for a further three years, until 30 June 2029.
The young player’s contract stipulated a series of variables for participation that could activate those three years.
Now, delighted with Bernal’s performances, the sporting department is determined to apply the option of three more years despite the fact that the player has not had time to meet these requirements.
Deco, like Flick, trusts Bernal with his eyes closed and has no doubts that it is a justified move.
In fact, Barcelona’s idea is to conclude the renewal of the youngster in the next few weeks so that he can begin the long process of recovery knowing that he has the full confidence and support of the club.
